Life Chapter: Funny Without Forcing It
For the past year, I kept reflecting and reconnecting with people from my past: high school friends, friends from the judo club, people I met along the way. Not looking for answers, but for nostalgia. And with some of those reconnections, I noticed people laughed at my jokes or behaviour: since when am I the funny guy?I wondered.
I used to try to be funny, chasing validation, but I noticed that I am plenty funny without forcing it.
With my old tribe, I would have those idiotic moments without forcing them. Like when I tried to remember a show name and went with"pinkerton snails" after babbling random words for a while. The show was Peaky Blinders.
Even at dance class, I did something dumb. There’s a move called camina where you basically walk, and I made a claw on purpose like a T. rex and made funny faces while doing it. The teacher saw it and laughed and said it’s not Thriller Andy. My face turned red. The teacher was laughing and imitated me to show what not to do. (Thriller dance from Michael Jackson)
Even at work, just being myself makes people laugh. Some weeks ago a colleague asked, "How is dance class going?" I answered, "We learned a new move set, it was pretty fun." I replied neutral and friendly manner. Then I was asked what it was, Silly me took over and I said I learned to shake my booty like a Latino. I replied with a Spanish accent and proceeded to show what I learned while saying, "Look, shaking my booty like a Latino." All my colleagues burst into laughter.
I am funny just by being myself, and I guess that is another small proof that my mind is getting more relaxed and less anxious.
Same energy lately in photography too.
I finally bought my second camera a while ago, so happy with it, and I bought a new lens, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8. It takes gorgeous portraits. I can't wait to show some pictures. I'm not happy with the results I got yet, but I will definitely take pictures with it and post them soon. I just enjoy playing around with it. For now, at the moment i am busy making some blogs for a planned small hiatus. Sharing more soon.
