Start Small, Build Big

If the idea of a big change scares you, start smaller—way smaller.
I went from 20 minutes at the gym to an hour, four times a week… and I didn’t even notice it happening.

But here’s the thing: I didn’t begin there.
That’s the secret.
Start small, build up. Apply it to anything.
Once I saw it working with the gym, I decided to try the same approach with other things—like drawing, learning UI/UX, and even job applications.

Here’s what my life looks like now compared to the beginning of the year:

Now:

  • Wake up at 6:30 AM

  • Apply to 3 jobs a day (my temp contract ended end of April)

  • Gym: 4 times a week, 1 hour

  • Draw for 30 minutes

  • Study UI/UX or graphic design theory for 30 minutes

  • Duolingo: 2 exercises

Before:

  • Wake up around 8:30

  • Apply to 1 job a day, mostly via a temp agency

  • Gym: 3 times a week, 20 minutes

  • No drawing

  • No UI/UX study

  • Duolingo: 1 exercise a day

If there’s something you’ve wanted to do for a long time but it feels overwhelming—start ridiculously small. Even 5 minutes a week counts. Add time slowly, and before you know it, you’ve built a habit you never thought possible.

I still hate going to the gym. But I go first thing in the morning so I don’t have time to talk myself out of it. So pick one thing you’ve been putting off, start small, and make today your Day One.
